The Make-A-Way Center opened its
door in August
1981 as a result of the effort of Rev. George Schmidt
(founder of Make-A-Way), concerned citizens, Massillon
Clergy Association, local mental health center,
Stark County Community Mental Health Board, civic
leaders, and the Massillon City government.
Mayor Demmer proposed a resolution
offering our organization
a city owned building for $1 per year on a 20-year lease. City
Council then unanimously approved the plan and the Make-A-Way
Center had found a home.
Make-A-Way has become an enormous
success due
to the support and involvement of various segments of the
community. Equally important, the center has maintained
this record of increasing success as a result of the participation
of its members and volunteers.
